Benjamin Benedikt was born on January 7, 1886 in Mattersdorf (today Mattersburg, Austria). His father was Adolf Benedikt. After training at the Israelitische Lehrerbildungs-Anstalt in Würzburg, he began working as a teacher of religion in Vienna's Jewish public schools in 1909. He apparently retired in 1920 for medical reasons, and lived thereafter on a pension while also selling pre-printed medical forms.
